They won four more championships by 1918, and then went into one of the longest championship droughts in baseball history. From 1919 to 2003, they did not win a single World Series despite having some of the best teams in baseball during that time period. They were known as “The Curse of the Bambino” because they hadn’t won a World Series since selling Babe Ruth to their National League rivals, the New York Yankees. They finally broke “the curse” and won the 2004 World Series, thanks to their ace pitcher Curt Schilling, who pitched with an injured ankle that has since had surgery. They then went on to sweep their archrival Yankees.

In 2007, they swept their rival Colorado Rockies in the World Series to become champions for the second time in four years.

The Red Sox are baseball’s most storied and beloved franchise, a nostalgic link to the days when games were played in wool uniforms and the Babe was bigger than the game.

It’s been over a century since Boston has emerged as the hub of baseball and the center of the universe for all things sports. The rivalry between the New York Yankees and Red Sox is one of the greatest in all of American sports.

And it is this rivalry that has kept baseball competitive even into its darkest days, when players were being paid under-the-table bonuses to throw games, fans were using binoculars to spy on signs from center field, and owners colluded to keep salaries low as they fought over every last dime.

The Boston Red Sox were established in 1901. They were called the Boston Americans at the time. The team has become one of the most successful professional sports franchises in history, with eight World Series Championships and twelve American League Pennants.

The Red Sox are known for great players such as Ted Williams, Babe Ruth, Carl Yastrzemski, Wade Boggs, Jim Rice and Carlton Fisk. Over the years they have had more than a dozen Hall of Fame Players.

The Red Sox are the oldest MLB team in the United States that have never changed their name of moved to another city.

In the Red Sox last game against the Yankees, the Red Sox had a three-run lead, but lost it in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs.

The loss was hard to take, even though they had won two games before that. It’s hard to lose a game after you had a three-run lead in the ninth inning of a game. The team had done so well up to that point in the game and to have it slip away was hard.

But then again, this is baseball, and there will be more games to play and more chances to win.

Founded in 1901 as one of the American League’s eight charter franchises, the Red Sox’ home ballpark has been Fenway Park since 1912. The “Red Sox” name was chosen by the team owner, John I. Taylor, circa 1908, following the lead of previous teams that had been known as the “Boston Red Stockings”, including the forerunner of the Atlanta Braves.

In 1903, the franchise was officially nicknamed the Red Sox, with The Boston Globe running a contest to select a new nickname (the nickname “Braves”, after Boston’s National League team that had played from 1876–1952 at South End Grounds and Braves Field, had been adopted by that team in 1912). Newspapers were covering the events locally: “The Red Stockings lost again yesterday–this time to Cleveland by a score of 9 to 2.” The loss left the newly minted red stockings with a 1-5 record and in last place in their division.
