Thomas Davis (knee) won’t play again this season, but he knows the Panthers need him more than ever.

He may not be on the field, but Thomas Davis will be the Panthers’ most important player in the playoffs.

“I think my role is to uplift these guys and keep them going,” Davis said Tuesday. “When things get tough, I’m going to be there for them.”

The Panthers are expected to place Davis on injured reserve with a torn ACL in his right knee, but he’ll still have a major presence in the locker room and on the sidelines.

The team’s emotional leader made that clear Tuesday as he spoke publicly for the first time since getting hurt in Sunday’s 33-14 win over Tampa Bay.
