The History of foot ball along with the Rules and Roles: a blog that go in depth about football.

The history of football is interesting as well as exciting, from the first forms of the game ever played, to the multi million dollar organizations of today. Football although now, a very technical and complex game, has not always been so. In fact, early forms of American football would more closely resemble rugby than what we know today as football.

Football is a sport played by two teams of eleven players on a 120-yard, rectangular field with goal lines on each end. The offense, the team with control of the oval-shaped football, attempts to advance down the field by running with or passing the ball, while the defense, the team without control of the ball, aims to stop their advance and take control of the ball for themselves. The offense must advance at least ten yards in four downs, or plays, and otherwise they turn over the football to the defense; if the offense succeeds in advancing ten yards or more, they are given a new set of four downs. Points are scored primarily by advancing the ball into the opposing team’s end zone for a touchdown or kicking the ball through the opponent’s goalposts for a field goal.

The team with the most points at the end of a game wins. Football is one of America’s favorite sports to watch and play! American Football is unique. There are so many different types of players that have so many different roles it takes to win a game. In this blog I will be going in depth about all things football from history to rules and roles!

Football is a family of team sports that involve, to varying degrees, kicking a ball to score a goal. Unqualified, the word football is understood to refer to whichever form of football is the most popular in the regional context in which the word appears.

Sports commonly called football include association football (known as soccer in some countries); gridiron football (specifically American football or Canadian football); Australian rules football; rugby football (either rugby league or rugby union); and Gaelic football.[1][2] These different variations of football are known as football codes.

There are a number of references to traditional, ancient, or prehistoric ball games played by indigenous peoples in many different parts of the world. Contemporary codes of football can be traced back to the codification of these games at English public schools during the nineteenth century.[3] The expansion of the British Empire allowed these rules of football to spread to areas of British influence outside the directly controlled Empire.[4] By the end of the nineteenth century, distinct regional codes were already developing: Gaelic Football, for example, deliberately incorporated the rules of local traditional football games in order to maintain their heritage.[5] In 1888, The Football League was founded in England, becoming the first of many professional football competitions.[6] During

In 1846, the first rules of football were written by the Ebenezer Cobb Morley, a solicitor whose drafted the laws with his friend, Arthur Pember. The original 13 laws were heavily influenced by the rules of rugby football and association football. A few years later, in 1863, a stronger football association was formed to standardize the laws of the game and to establish football as a sport that could be played at universities. At this time, not only did the sport become more popular, but it was also organized into teams that competed against each other. In 1871, 15 teams from across England met in London to establish the Football Association (FA) Challenge Cup. This event marked one of the first attempts to consolidate teams and create a competition for them to participate in.

Despite these efforts to organize and standardize play, soccer was still largely disorganized during this period. It wasn’t until 1888 that The Football League was created by William McGregor – an official who worked for Aston Villa (a Birmingham-based team). The purpose of the league was to provide a consistent schedule for clubs to play competitive matches against each other throughout an entire season. Today, The Football League has 72 clubs from England and Wales that make up its three divisions: Championship (24

The best-known of the codes is association football, which is one of the most popular sports in the world. The name association football was coined to distinguish the sport from the other forms of football played at the time, specifically rugby football. The first written “reference to the inflated ball used in the game” was in the mid-14th century: “Þe heued fro þe body went, Als it were a foteballe”. The Online Etymology Dictionary states that the “rules of the game” were made in 1848, before the “split off in 1863”. The term soccer comes from a slang abbreviation of “association”, with soccer first recorded in 1889.

American football, referred to as football in the United States and Canada[citation needed] and also known as “gridiron football”[1] or simply “gridiron”, is a sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. The offense, which is the team controlling the oval-shaped football, attempts to advance down the field by running with or passing the ball, while the defense, which is the team without control of the ball, aims to stop the offense’s advance and to take control of the ball for themselves. The team with the most points at the end of a game wins.[2]

American football evolved in the United States, originating from the sports of association football (known in the U.S. as soccer) and rugby football. The first match of American football was played on November 6, 1869,

Football is a sport that is played in the United States as well as many different countries around the world. It is a contact sport that involves two teams of 11 players trying to get an oblong ball into the other team’s end zone using only their arms and legs. They can kick, throw or run the ball down the field to attempt to score a touchdown. Football is one of the most popular sports in America, with fans filling stadiums on Sunday afternoons during the fall.

History

The history of football dates back to ancient Greece, where games involving a ball and feet were played on a rectangular field. One such game was called harpaston, which was played by two teams of an unlimited number of players on each side who tried to move an inflated ball across a line at either end of the playing field.

Football’s roots in North America began with variants of soccer and rugby that were being played at British universities in the 1800s. In 1869, Princeton University and Rutgers University played what was billed as the first college football game. However, it wasn’t until Nov. 6, 1869, that Rutgers and Princeton actually met in New Brunswick, N.J., for what was dubbed the first intercollegiate football game in U.S.
