A few years ago, if you were to tell me that I’d be writing a blog post about how to watch NFL games without cable, I would have called you crazy.

In the early days of cable television and satellite TV, I was a big fan of the NFL Sunday Ticket package through DirecTV. For the uninitiated, NFL Sunday Ticket is a premium service offered by DirecTV (and owned by AT&T) that lets you watch out-of-market games on Sundays. It’s a pretty great deal for football fans who don’t live in close proximity to their favorite team.

But as my cable bill continued to rise each year, and as more and more streaming services became available, it became clear that there were better options for watching NFL games out there. In fact, we started cutting the cord back in 2014, when our monthly cable bill was around $190 a month.

The NFL season is here. How can you watch it without cable? Here are a few different ways!

NFL Sunday Ticket

If you live in an area where DirecTV is available, and you don’t have it, well, then. You’re probably in college, I guess. But if so, you can get it for $24.99 a month for four months.

In that case, it’s totally worth it to get NFL Sunday Ticket Max. It allows you to stream every single game outside of your local market, and on demand after they finish. (Using your DirecTV login.)

CBS All Access

This one’s a little bit more complicated because CBS isn’t streaming every single game this season. But if you’re looking for a way to catch one particular team or a few games each week, then this might be the way to go for you.

It costs $5.99 a month after a free trial period.

Over the past few years, it has become increasingly easy to watch NFL games without cable.

In fact, we’re even at a point where you can watch every single NFL game without cable, including Monday Night Football, Thursday Night Football and Sunday Night Football.

While these services are usually geared towards the cord-cutting crowd, there are plenty of people who just prefer watching sports this way. Generally speaking, these services offer a more flexible way to enjoy sports…

With the rise of the internet, some have predicted that television will eventually go the way of newspapers and become something you can only read on a screen.
