3 Players To Watch in 2016

With 2015 drawing to a close, it is time to look back on the year that was. If you’re a football fan, you have no doubt been watching all year long. But with the new year comes new players and new teams to watch out for. Every team is going to be looking to get better in 2016. Some are going to improve more than others. Here are three players that you should keep an eye on next year:

1. Tom Brady, Quarterback, New England Patriots

The Patriots’ quarterback has been one of the best in the game for years now. He has won four Super Bowls and at age 38 is still playing better than ever. In fact, after missing the first four games of this season due to suspension, Brady has thrown for over 3,000 yards and 26 touchdowns in just 12 games played this season. The Patriots also have one of the best offenses in the league, which takes pressure off of their defense and allows them to score quickly if they fall behind early.

2. Odell Beckham Jr., Wide Receiver, New York Giants

Odell Beckham Jr. had a phenomenal rookie season with 91 catches for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns in just 12 games last season. He followed that up by

Sergio Aguero: The Argentine striker is one of the best football players in the world. His time at Manchester City has been a huge success and he is a fan favourite at the club. He scored 16 goals in his last 10 games, including a hat-trick against Chelsea.

Paul Pogba: The French midfielder has been linked with a move away from Juventus for some time now, but with rumours of Raheem Sterling’s departure from Liverpool, it looks like he’ll stay put for now.

Mesut Ozil: The German international was Arsenal’s player of the season last year and will be hoping to carry his form into 2016.

[Real Madrid’s Cristiano] Ronaldo, 32, is coming off a season in which he scored 51 league goals and won the Ballon d’Or for the fourth time.

His form has dipped this term and he has only struck twice for Real in their opening four matches in La Liga. However, there is no doubting that Ronaldo remains one of the most feared attackers on the continent.

[Barcelona’s Lionel] Messi, 29, is widely regarded as one of the best players of all time and was shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or alongside Ronaldo and Griezmann.

The Argentine enjoyed an excellent 2015-16 campaign, scoring 41 goals to help Barcelona win La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

[Atletico Madrid’s Antoine] Griezmann is developing into one of Europe’s most dangerous attacking players. The 25-year-old helped Atletico win the Spanish Super Cup against Barcelona at the start of August before joining up with France for Euro 2016 in his homeland.

The former Real Sociedad forward scored 32 goals last season as Atletico finished third in La Liga. He also netted six times at Euro 2016 – including both goals in a 2-0 win over Germany in the semi-final – as

It is a season of uncertainty at Old Trafford, but the one thing that is guaranteed is the continued excellence of their Spanish goalkeeper.

Injury has meant David de Gea’s season has been disrupted, but there are few better in this position.

The 25-year-old has been at United for five seasons and has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

With Real Madrid circling, De Gea will be desperate to show his worth in the upcoming campaign.
