11 Reasons To Change Your Routine During the Playoffs

Now that the playoffs are here, we’re going to be spending a lot more time glued to our TV screens than usual. And so, as you watch your favorite team try to bring home a championship, there’s one question on your mind: What can I do to make sure I don’t fall behind on my health and fitness?

The answer: Change your routine. As a certified personal trainer, I’ve spent years helping people with their workouts and nutrition regimens, and over time I’ve noticed that when it comes to making big changes, it’s all about getting out of your comfort zone. You need to do things differently from the way you have been doing them in order to see different results. But making strategic changes to your routine can be easier said than done, which is why we’ve put together this list of 11 ways you can tweak your habits during the playoffs that will help you stay healthy—both physically and mentally.

The NBA Playoffs are upon us, and the excitement is high. This is the time of year where many fans will be staying up late at night watching their favorite teams battle it out. Unfortunately, this “excitement” can lead to some not-so-great habits, especially in regards to your health.

Here are 11 things you should try to avoid during your team’s playoff run:

1. Sleeping less than 6 hours per night

2. Eating less than 3 meals per day

3. Drinking more than 2 alcoholic beverages per day

4. Consuming more than 10 grams of sugar per day

5. Drinking more than 4 cups of coffee or tea per day

6. Spending more than 1 hour on social media each day

7. Not wearing sunscreen outside for longer than 30 minutes (even if it’s cloudy)

8. Not getting enough water – drink at least 8 glasses a day!

9. Not exercising for more than 3 days in a row without doing anything active (walking, running, etc.)

10. Not getting enough sleep – try going to bed earlier so you can wake up earlier too!

11. Not taking breaks from watching television/computer screens every 20 minutes or so; take your eyes off the screen every now

It’s that time of year again. Time for the NBA playoffs, when it can be difficult to get a workout in. Here are 11 tips to keep you healthy during this time of the year:

1. Get up early and go to bed early. If you watch your favorite team play at 8pm, then wake up at 5am and increase your physical activity.

2. Do sit-ups and push-ups during commercials. Even if you watch your favorite player on TV, work out with him!

3. Avoid all alcohol during the game. Alcohol has been shown to lower testosterone levels, which could decrease the intensity of your workout routine.

4. Switch off between healthy eating days and junk food days. This way, you’re not eating bad all the time, but it’s still a reward for watching and enjoying the game!

5. Go outside and play basketball with friends or family members between games, as long as everyone understands they have to be careful with their bodies. It is important to stay active during this time of year!

During the NBA playoffs, your routine is about to change. No more 10:30 a.m. basketball games. No more 8:30 p.m. bedtimes on school nights. Instead, you’re going to be pulling all-nighters watching game after game of the world’s best athletes banging each other on the court as they fight for their chance at a championship ring.

And you know what? That’s great! I love the playoffs, and I think changing your routine for two months is something we can all enjoy and look forward to every year. But with that change in routine comes some added health risks. So, I wanted to provide some tips that are easy to follow during this time of year to help you stay healthy and strong so you can root on your team without having to make any trips to urgent care yourself!

1) Stay hydrated! Just because you may be drinking less water when you’re not playing or practicing doesn’t mean your body is getting all it needs during this time of year when it is warmer outside and you are most likely exerting yourself just as much while cheering on your team as you do while playing!

2) Eat a good breakfast during important

The NBA playoffs are in full swing, and with the Golden State Warriors dominating the first two games of the series, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement. But don’t let this time of year be an excuse to fall off your healthy habits.

To make sure you stay on track with your health—and keep your energy up to cheer on your team—we rounded up 11 ways to stay healthy during the playoffs.

1. Don’t skip breakfast

Even if you plan on watching the game at a friend’s house or a bar, start your day off right with a nutritious breakfast. Do you have time? Grab a healthy smoothie or baked oatmeal to go. If you’re short on time, eat something light like cereal or toast and plan out a meal for later in the day.

2. Skip the vitamin D supplements

A study published in The Endocrine Society Journal examined how vitamin D impacts weight loss in postmenopausal women and found that those who took supplements lost less weight than those who got their vitamin D naturally through food or sunlight. Take advantage of spring weather and catch some rays outdoors before watching the game indoors.

3. Be active (even if it’s just

Everyone knows that the playoffs are coming and most of us will be sitting in front of our screens watching the games. However, we need to make sure we’re still taking good care of ourselves during this time as well. Here are some things to keep in mind:

1) Have enough sleep.

2) Eat healthy snacks.

3) Exercise daily.

4) Drink water.

5) Don’t abuse alcohol.

6) Don’t smoke.

7) Avoid caffeine.

8) Socialize with friends and family.

9) Stay up to date on world news, events, and politics (even if you’re not interested).

10) Get involved with a cause or issue you care about (volunteering, fundraising, etc.).

11) Visit your doctor regularly if you’re sick or injured.

The NBA playoffs are the time of year where the best teams really begin to shine and prove themselves. It is also the time of year where we see a lot of injuries, specifically in the latter rounds. The reason for such injuries is due to fatigue and overuse. As we all know, our bodies need rest and recovery after workouts, especially after intense workouts. Most athletes do not realize that getting enough sleep is one of the most important components for recovery. Additionally, eating a healthy diet and staying hydrated are also two important factors for recovery.

The playoffs can be a stressful time for any athlete and this stress can cause an increased heart rate and blood pressure, which can decrease your performance on and off the court. As it is hard to reduce stress, it is important to find effective ways to deal with stress that works best for you. For example, it could be taking a few minutes out of your day to meditate or it could be simply listening to music before bed. It is important to prioritize your health during this time as well as throughout the season because your family needs you at home and more importantly your team needs you on the court!
